The heart of ACOR is a large collection of cancer-related Internet mailing lists , which delivered 1,847,431 e-mail messages last week to subscribers.

In addition to supporting the mailing lists, ACOR develops and hosts state-of-the-art Internet-based knowledge systems that allow the public to find and use credible information relevant to their illness.

ACOR aims to:

  1. Provide information and support to cancer patients and those who care for them through the creation and maintenance of cancer-related [[eCommunities|Internet mailing lists] and Web-based resources
  2. Provide our subscribers with access to varied and credible information sources through Internet resource development and partnership with trusted content providers
  3. Improve communication between patients and health care professionals through advocacy in a variety of public forums, including the media and professional journals
  4. Improve understanding of the effect of Health eCommunities on patients, caregivers and health professionals through in-depth research, via web-based surveys and dissemination of collected information vio online resources such as this wiki.
  5. Respect its subscribers by
    1. working to protect their privacy through the implementation of secure systems
    2. providing full explanations of the limitations of ACOR's ability to prevent unathorized access to the ACOR database
    3. promising not to sell or transfer personally-identifiable information to a third party without the informed consent of each subscriber BEFORE the data is collected
    4. educating users concerning relevant existing and emerging privacy concerns in Internet health care
    5. participating actively in the creation of ethical guidelines for eHealth.
